Since its foundation a decade ago, Radio-Tech Limited has been committed to look at ways of protecting the environment. The company's products by their nature are supplied to the non-consumer market and hence are purchased to perform tasks, i.e. monitoring and control.
Our environmental policy is fairly unique as it places most focus on the effect of our products, the majority are energy and resource saving devices on the environment and then goes back to look at out own process and those of our suppliers.
We supply apparatus to aid the collection of data from remote pollution monitoring sites. Avoiding the need to send technicians to site saves countless tonnes of CO2 emissions every year!
The buoy above a good example of one of our systems. This buoy measures temperature and controls pumps that prevent thermal stratification in fresh water reservoirs.
Prior to this system, the 45KW pumps were kept running 24hrs a day as no method of real time control was available other than sending a technician out in a boat to measure temperature.
We do not believe in data logging unless it has a method of automatic de-briefing. Our GSM and low power radio devices use the latest state-of-the-art technology to bring data back on demand or in the event of an out-of-bound condition. Something that a data logger on its own cannot!
This permits clients to implement real time control of processes rather than after the event remedial "fire fighting". Far better for the environment you will agree!
Switching off a process when it is not required goes a long way to saving energy. All processes consume energy in some way. Controlling a process can only be achieved if there some form of feedback from the process output. This is often where we come in!
In spite of obstacles such as no mains power we are able to bring back reading from remote sites without a problem. Our power efficient telemetry outstations can operate on solar and or batteries for up to a decade without need of service.
In many cases the energy we consume is only 10% of that iron loss of the control transformer should we have had mains power on site!
Manufacturing at Radio-Tech is conducted within UK and European Environmental law. Where applicable we operate a re-cycling policy where manufacturing waste is collected and send for re-cycling.
End of life products can also be re-cycled if this is required. See our re-cycling policy below.
As a policy we will attempt to use re-cycled packing materials for dispatching goods to our clients. We apologies if sometimes the packaging may not look at its best and may well carry the name of a well known breakfast flake, but this is true practical re-cycling, not just talk!
End of life products may be returned to Radio-Tech for re-cycling. However, before doing so please consider the impact of the energy consumed in the transportation process and materials used in the packing process! If you have a local re-cycling facility please consider this first!
Die-cast boxes, antenna and other light metals are readily accepted locally along with lead acid batteries and both if collected in sufficient quantities can actually create a positive revenue stream!
Wherever possible we comply with all legislation. Working with and encouraging key supplier to optimize and reduce waste.
